At a recent party I was introduced to this new age rap via request. In this day and time a no.1 hit comes in all shapes and form. Top 40 is no longer determined by the influences of the upper echelon of the music industry… sometimes the people have a say in determining what they feel is fu$%ing awesome. Independently, Macklemore and his partner Ryan Lewis debut single “Thrift Shop” has topped the Billboard Hot 100, grabbing the #1 spot. This follows the single going platinum last week. Note to all upcoming artist…. you’re just 65 million you tube video plays away from success. The bigger question is how do I categorize this in my iTunes … hip hop, rap, top 40 ?
